Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services - Comox Valley

Provides a single access point for individuals seeking adult mental health and substance use services in Comox Valley and surrounding communities.
Adult mental health and substance use services available for individuals aged 19+ years old who are living in the Comox Valley, including Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Denman and Hornby Islands. The team is able to assist patients with navigation and referrals to other programs, provide screening and assessments, and connection to additional mental health and substance use services such as counselling, outreach teams, treatment and recovery. The first step to access these services is to complete the single session walk-in or phone service (SSWIS) - please see below

Services Provided:

  1. The Single Session Walk-In Service (SSWIS) provides timely drop-in, walk-in, and phone-in support for in-the-moment Mental and Substance Use related issues that are non-crisis related. There is no limit to how often one accesses SSWIS, although each session is 40 minutes in length with the opportunity to attend various programs/groups.
    • Runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM - 2:15 PM, and on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM - 11:15 AM (no PM sessions on Wednesdays)

  2. The Early Recovery Program (ERP) covering topics such as sleep, anger, boundaries, relapse prevention, preparing for trauma counselling, and many more
    • Runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:45 AM - 10:30 AM

  3. Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment Groups meets in both in person and virtually via Zoom. Both formats are drop-in, with participants experiencing mindfulness and psychoeducational skill-based series as facilitated by a presenter.
    • In-person meets on Tuesdays from 8:45 AM - 10:30 AM (max 18 participants)
    • Virtual sessions are on Wednesdays from 10:25 AM - 11:45 AM

How to Access Services:
  • Start the self-referral process by walking-in or calling to schedule an appointment with the nursing team at 250-331-8524
  • Referrals are accepted from individuals, community agencies, clinicians and other Island Health programs.
  • The above drop-in groups are open to the public - please call reception for the current schedule at 250-331-8524.

Crisis and Emergency Services: The Community Response Team provides urgent response for adults who may be suicidal or in a psychiatric crisis through the 24-Hour Vancouver Island Crisis Line 1-888-494-3888.
