Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP) - Nanaimo/Ladysmith

Provided by Nanaimo and Area Resource Services for Families (NARSF)

Provides a complementary pairing of prevention and treatment service to lessen the impact of trauma associated with sexual abuse for the referred children and their families in the Nanaimo/Ladysmith area.
The program's approach is strength-based and collaborative when working with referred clients, caregivers and other service providers. Clinical services provided for full screening and assessment and the implementation of cognitive, systemic and behavioural interventions to optimize client functioning in the home, school and community setting.


The program consists of complete screening and assessment of the referred client and family, health education and any needed referrals to community resources, education and consultation services to schools, service providers and community groups.

SAIP provides free clinical counselling services for children/youth ages 5 to 18 and their families when sexual abuse has been disclosed. This includes children who are at risk for sexual exploitation or children under 12 who display inappropriate sexual behaviours.

Access to Program: Children and youth under the age of 19 who have disclosed sexual abuse or sexual exploitation that may have been reported to the Ministry of Children and Family Development and/or the RCMP, and/or have sexual behaviour problems and are under the age of 12
