Outpatient Services - Child, Youth & Family Mental Health

Provided by Island Health

Evaluation and treatment planning for children and youth up to age 18 with significant emotional, behavioural, psychological, and psychiatric symptoms.
Outpatient Mental Health Services at Queen Alexandra Centre supports children, youth and their families by evaluating and planning treatment for significant emotional, behavioural, psychological, and psychiatric symptoms. The goal of this work is to increase the mental health and functioning of children and youth at home, at school and within their home community. This is accomplished through specialized treatment and therapeutic interventions, including short- and long-term support, follow-up care, and collaboration with other service providers to support the child/youth holistically.

Specialized Services:

  • The Anscomb Outpatient Program provides specialized services for children and youth up to and including 18 years of age who are having significant challenges in their daily functioning. This could be due to severe, complex and persistent mood, anxiety and/or behavioural conditions related to major psychiatric disorders, all of which may or may not be associated with co-morbid neuro developmental conditions. The Anscomb program serves all of Island Health catchment area children and youth.
  • The Adolescent Intensive Day Treatment Program (AIDTP) serves youth in the Greater Victoria Area aged 14 to 18 where, from Monday to Friday for 5 months, the team provides intensive trauma-informed and attachment focused services. The program is designed to support youth who are experiencing significant anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and chronic suicidality (risk of suicide).
  • The Youth Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Program (Youth DBT) services 15 - 18 year old youth in the Greater Victoria Area who are struggling with chronic suicidality (risk of suicide) and/or self-injury and difficulty controlling emotions. It provides 6 months of specialized treatment for youth and their families through weekly individual DBT therapy, weekly DBT skills group, and phone coaching. Support for caregivers is also provided on a weekly basis.
