Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services

Provided by Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre

Supports Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families from both our Victoria and Nanaimo.
The following services are offered:
  • The Sound of Change Initiative: Provides free hearing assessments, refurbished hearing aids, and communication devices to vulnerable and at-risk populations including low-income seniors and adults.
  • Employment Support: Offers specialized employment services to Deaf and hard of hearing persons and their employers throughout Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
  • Hearing Health Services: Provides hearing aids and hearing health services for everyone. Full audiology services supported by state of the art equipment.
  • Family Services: Provides services to families such as home-based sign language instruction, 'role model’ support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and youth, information, referral and support to access government and community resources and case management.
  • Individual Services: Provides individualized services including case management, life transition support, instructive self-advocacy, communication support and literacy assistance and much more.
  • Support Groups: In-person support groups. Meet once a month in-person. On occasion, guest speakers may attend. Captioning will be provided.
