Human Rights Advocacy and Support

Provided by Vancouver Island Human Rights Coalition (VIHRC)

Assist people who have experienced discrimination under the B.C. Human Rights Code.
VIHRC is able to work within the parameters of the BC Human Rights Code and Canadian Human Rights Act. Through advocacy, support, and human rights education, they assist people who have experienced discrimination. Some ways they achieve this are:
  • Communicating with police, government, organizations, corporations, or other individuals regarding clients’ human rights
  • Assisting individuals to access information regarding their human rights
  • Preparation, support, and assistance in filing human rights complaints with the BC Human Rights Tribunal and the Canadian Human Rights Commission

Please note that while advocates at VIHRC can provide information about the BC Human Rights Code and Canadian Human Rights Act, by assisting with drafting human rights complaints, and help navigate the complaint process, and provide legal information, they are not lawyers and cannot offer legal advice or representation to potential clients.

VIHRC works with individuals in the Vancouver Island area (Victoria, Lower Island and Gulf Islands), as well as the province of British Columbia as a whole.
