Support Services and Resources for Individuals with Down Syndrome

Provide information, support, and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome in BC and their families.
The LMDSS provides information, support, and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome in BC and their families. The following programs are offered:

Parent Support Meetings: Parent support meetings are held across the provinces and are hosted by parents of children with Down syndrome. They are designed to provide a welcoming, open environment for discussing experiences, challenges, concerns, and celebrations with one another. Support groups can be found by visiting here.

Counselling: If a family member requires help and would like to speak with a counsellor, this service is available. Types of counselling that are covered are as follows:

  • Special Needs
  • Individual (Adult)
  • Couples or Relationships
  • Therapeutic Play
  • Bowen Family Systems
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Anxiety or Depression

  • Postnatal Emotional Difficulties
  • Adjustment to Divorce or Separation
  • Relationship Counselling
  • Special Needs Issues
  • Behavioural, Social or Academic Concerns
  • Play & Art Therapy for Kids
  • Family System Therapy
Resources: LMDSS has information on Down Syndrome in over 20 languages. Individuals whose first language is not English or who speak a different language are encouraged to contact LMDSS for access to additional resources and support.

To become a member of LMDSS, there is a membership fee of $25 per year for individuals, $30 per year for families, and $150 per year for Corporate Membership. New members can apply by filling out the application form. See below.
