Heartwood Centre for Women - Residential addictions treatment

Provided by BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCWH)

A 90-day residential treatment program with 30 beds for women 19 or older including trans women who have substance dependence with other health concerns including mental and physical health concerns.
Provides trauma-informed treatment for substance dependency. Provides a safe treatment environment for women to establish a solid foundation of recovery, stabilize all health concerns, and plan for ongoing supported recovery in the community following discharge.

The program includes 2 weeks of stabilization and assessment and 10 weeks of intensive treatment. Group programs address trauma, substance dependency, mental and physical health issues. A team of professionals including Doctors, Nurses, a Social Worker, Counsellors, a Recreation Therapist, and a Dietitian works together to provide care for clients.

Treatment approaches include trauma-specific counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, psycho-education, skill development, pharmacotherapy, twelve-step programs, and peer support.
Admission Criteria:
  • Current substance dependence
  • Female (including transgendered women)
  • BC resident age 19 and older
  • Independence in activities of daily living

Referral Instructions: Referrals are received through the Health Authorities. The referral package is to be filled out by a health professional. Completed referral packages should go to the Health Authority where the client lives. Please see the referral form below.
